At Uppsala University, the research is especially well established in some areas of analysis, in analytical number theory, algebra, topology, geometry, mathematical logic, as well as probability theory and statistics.

Although much of the work is focused on basic research, a significant number of researchers work in applications in computational mathematics, financial mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical statistics and other areas. The formation of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Mathematics has reinforced our commitment to applications.
