Aims and Goals of the Workshop
Mathematical models and numerical simulations are ubiquitous both in science and society. They are used for better understanding of processes and phenomena as well as for making important political or economical decisions. In each field contributing to a simulation there are different types of errors and methods to estimate and control these. There are measurement errors that affect input data, there are modeling errors and model validation methods, there are numerical errors and error analysis. Uncertainty quantification is about taking a holistic approach to the problem and dealing with all the uncertainties so that the final result can be delivered with a probability estimate.
In this workshop, we are recognizing the truly interdisciplinary nature of uncertainty quantification and are bringing together speakers who can provide different angles to the problem. We hope to attract an audience with equally wide ranging backgrounds and intend to have cross disciplinary discussions.
