Abstract: There are many interesting values which can be reinterpreted dynamically. For example: (i) The dimension of the cantor set of real numbers whose expansion contains only the digits 1 or 2; (ii) The dimension of the difference between the Markof and Lagrange spectra in number theory; (iii) The lowest eigenvalue of the Laplacian on an infinite area Riemann surface; etc. By using an approach based on determinants of the transfer operator one can get efficient and rigorous estimates on these values.
