About 3500 students take courses at the Department of Mathematics in Uppsala every year. Our courses are a recurring element in a number of study programmes. Additionally, we offer bachelor's and master's programmes in mathematics, where we focus on both broad mathematical education and subject depth.

Since the nineteenth century, the mathematical research at Uppsala University has been prominent in analysis, with distinguished mathematicians like Arne Beurling and Lennart Carleson in the lead.

Thanks to the recent internationalisation, the mathematical research in Uppsala has grown greatly, both in terms of mathematical areas and number of researchers. After the first researchers in algebra and topology were recruited from abroad in the nineties, the mathematical research at Uppsala University has multiplied.
